just read an article claiming that His Dark Materials is a direct rebuttal of Narnia
now i want to write an article/essay comparing the two
omg you know what i SHOULD
because last year my essay Women In Narnia: the Good, the Bad, and the Demonised was published in my uni paper so
maybe this year i should do this comparison piece
hmmm
HMMM

ALSO YOU SHOULD DEFINITELY WRITE A PROPER CROSSOVER. I WOULD TOTES READ A PROPER CROSSOVER.
aw thanks!
think i’m gonna concentrate on mine and haley’s hitchlock for the moment
but i’ll definitely start coming up with headcanons for this fic (should it happen) because headcanons ftw :D

TBH, I’ve read so much of it that I’ve gotten used to daemons-out-of-context.
It can kind of be handwaved to be in-keeping-ish with HDM canon. Clearly daemons can exist in our universe, because Will’s does. And obviously HDM takes place in a multiverse. We don’t know how many differences between Will and Lyra’s universe exist because of daemons, and how many exist for other...
it is really good, this fic
i guess that’s why the setting thing is frustrating me, because it could be AMAZING
and i’m having a hard time not being distracted by all the questions that are popping up in my head without an established setting

Most of the HDM influenced fic I’ve come across has been less genuine crossover fic and more ‘add daemons to everything!’ fic. Which really threw me at first, but daemons are such a cool concept I get the appeal of putting them in all contexts.
oh god no really?
that
really pisses me off
ugh...

Using daemons as an externalized metaphor for internal traits can be a good way to explore characters. I’ve seen it before in other fandoms, and I’ve done something similar with superpowers.
no i just
if you’re going to use someone else’s creation in order to do this i feel you have to at...

wait what fic
lol the fic i was talking about in this post (complete with fic link)

I glanced at it, and I think it’s less of a crossover and more of a fusion where a few ideas from the HDM trilogy are put into Sherlock to see how the latter deals with the former.
yeah that actually annoys me because it feels like a cop-out...

ok so i'm finally reading this His Dark Materials...
(which is here if you’re interested)
and among other quibbles i have with it (americanisms for one)
i really can’t stand the setting
firstly, it hasn’t been properly established. there’s been no description of where/when the characters are, which i think is crucial to a crossover fic so that the readers have some kind of frame of reference to build their imagery on.
as...

aha
i just knew at some point i became ok with the title The Golden Compass, but i couldn’t remember how or why (i just remembered exactly where i was and could see the room i was in… that always happens with me)
and now i remember why
taken from the wikipedia page…
The original title The Golden Compasses comes from a line in Milton’s Paradise Lost,[1] where they denote...

I don’t think any of that is an excuse for giving the book a name that does not actually describe anything in the book. “The Golden Meter” would have been better. Fuck it, calling it “The Indescribable Thingy” would probably have frustrated me less.
hahahahahaha yes
god it just annoys me SO MUCH

A feeling of possession over a treasured object and irritation when you feel it’s not given proper respect or attention or care?

I do understand the drive to give the first book a title that fits the ‘The [adjective] [noun]’ pattern. And obviously the alethiometer is the most significant object in the first book. And I get not wanting to put an invented word in the title. BUT.
BUT it still makes no sense, i know
i think it’s...

UGH. I have always hated that version of the title. IT IS NOT A COMPASS.
THANK YOU
IT IS AN ALETHIOMETER

Then you used the wrong word in your last post. Monkeys are making tools to help them with everyday objects. We were making tools before we could communicate properly, we found fire, and the fact that water would quench the fire with the fact that fire need fuel. Science in it’s very basic form is accidentaly adding 1 & 2 which formed 3, 3 was rather helpful so if we...
